Stellaris update introduces new civics, origins and more features

A massive update was released yesterday for the real-time strategy game Stellaris. Stellaris Patch 2.8 aka "Butler" was released yesterday along with the Necroids species pack.

Developed by Paradox Development Studio and published by it's parent company Paradox Interactive, Stellaris was initially released on May 9, 2016, for PC and three years later on February 26, 2019, for PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Bug fixes, balancing and more

Over the years, the game received a lot of updates and DLC's that brought about significant changes to the mechanics, features of the game and also introduced us to deeper narratives. Let's take a look at the latest "Butler" Patch 2.8 and the Necroids species pack.

Stellaris Patch 2.8 aka "Butler"

The 2.8 patch features bug fixes, balancing, and changes in UI as well as the AI behavior. The patch also brings with it the new Necroid species pack. Let's take a look-

Patch 2.9 features-

  • Added new Gestalt Governor Leader Traits: Amplifier and Mindfulness - both increase Administrative Capacity in relevant Pop Jobs.

  • Systems spawned during the game (e.g. precursor ones) will now usually have two hyperlanes instead of one.

  • Added a new experimental DirectX11 support launch command (“-dx11”).

Necroids species pack

The Necroids species pack is not a full expansion pack but it does introduce us to some new features including a new origin and three new civics. Here's a list of everything the new Necroids species pack contains-

  • 1 New Origin Necrophage- A species that consumes anything that comes in their path.

  • 3 New Civics-

    Death Cult: enables powerful edicts which require the sacrificing of pops.

    Reanimated Armies: allows you to deploy morality-immune undead armies.

    Memorialists: erect monuments to the galaxy’s past, improving planetary stability and honouring tomb worlds.

  • 16 new portraits (15 organic, 1 robotic)

  • New ship set

  • New advisor voiceover

  • New city set & diplomacy room

  • New Name lists

  • New building appearances
