PUBG Mobile is the highest-grossing mobile game of 2020
PUBG Mobile has generated a revenue of $2.6 billion since the start of 2020, reports Sensor Tower. PUBG Mobile and Honor of Kings were the only two mobile gaming titles that crossed the 2 billion revenue mark. Interestingly, both of the games come under the Tencent banner.
PUBG Mobile was quite popular in India, in fact, it was one of the most popular mobile games in India with a large player base and a booming competitive scene. But in early September, the game was banned by the Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology due to national security reasons.
Steady growth since release for PUBG Mobile
Despite being banned in India, PUBG Mobile became the highest-grossing mobile gaming title in the world in 2020 and registered significantly higher numbers than that of 2019 where the game generated a revenue of at least $1.3 billion. This shows how consistently PUBG Mobile has grown since it was first released in February 2018.
The third highest-grossing mobile game of 2020 was Niantic and The Pokemon Company's PokemonGO with a total revenue of $1.2 billion. PokemonGO was followed by Coin Master, which is the only singleplayer title in the top5, and Roblox, with a revenue of $1.1 billion. Taking the sixth place is Monster Strike with a total generated revenue of $958 million.
PUBG Mobile was placed second at The Esports Awards 2020 in the Mobile Game of the Year category. PUBG Mobile shared the podium with Free Fire who took the first place and Call of Duty Mobile which was placed third.
