WB Montreal clears the air about Gotham Knights' combat gameplay
Gotham Knights' developer WB Montreal recently announced that they would be redesigning the combat system of their upcoming game which is set in the Batman universe. Speaking about the same to GamesRadar, the developers stated that they have "redesigned the combat of the game" with a heavy focus on co-op.
To recall, during the presentation for the game last year, the developers had shown that co-op will be a major part of the game, with each player taking one of the 4 roles from Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing or Red Hood. These changes to the combat system are supposed to make the game more cohesive, challenging and better, especially in co-op modes.
New combat system will be familiar, but will provide variety to players
The key focus of Gotham Knights is to give you and your friends the feeling of being Gotham's last hope for survival. With this in mind, Fleur Marty, executive producer of Gotham Knights says "we're still a brawler, and some of the mechanics won't feel totally alien for people who played and enjoyed the Arkham series, but it is in many ways very different." He adds "we have entirely redesigned the combat system in order for it to work well in co-op."
From the gameplay footage which was released earlier last year, we got a look at some of the traversal and co-op combat mechanics. The game seemed rather familiar to the Arkham Knight series, with each character having different combos and movesets.
In a Gotham without Batman, you're going to need all the help that you can get from your friends, and the co-op mode of the game will cater to that.
Gotham Knights is set to release some time this year for PCs, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S. It will feature Gotham City without the presence of Batman and the threat of the Court of the Owls looming over our heads. It is up to the Bat Family to help save Gotham.
