Major changes coming to Valorant's Competitive Ranks in Act III
Earlier this week, Riot Games released a new Dev Diaries episode which tells us about all the major changes coming to the game's ranked mode. The changes feature a tighter rank queue, preferred server choice and an Immortal-plus experiment.
The ranked system has been a hot topic of debate over recent months within the Valorant community, with many players, especially at higher skill levels, complaining about the experience.
There will be lower skill disparity between players moving forward
The most notable update to competitive play will be the tighter rank queue. In order to help with a more balanced matchmaking experience, Riot will be limiting the Rank tiers you can queue with from 6 tiers to 3 tiers. For example, the highest a Bronze 3 can queue with is an Silver 3 while the lowest will be a Iron 3.
In addition, the rank variations for those in Immortal tier and above will be purely impacted by wins or loses and how decisive the match outcome was. It will be implemented to all the tiers depending on the results of this Immortal-plus experiment.
Players all across the world will now be able to select their preferred server, although the developer has made it clear that they can’t fully guarantee you’ll always get the server you want, due to Matchmaking reasons. But this feature will notably increase the chance to get your preferred game server and either stabilize or help improve your ping.
