PUBG Mobile India is one of the hottest topics of gaming in India. Back in September, PUBG Mobile, one of the most played video game in India was banned by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) on account of being published by a Chinese publisher called Tencent. Back then, the MEITY announced "This move will safeguard the interests of crores of Indian mobile and internet users. This decision is a targeted move to ensure safety, security and sovereignty of Indian cyberspace."

Now, a few months after the ban and things settling down, there is still no concrete word as to when the game could launch in India. Here's everything that has happened since the ban of the game and what the current situation is like.

Following the ban on PUBG Mobile, mobile gamers in India took to various other games. At the time, Tencent's value dropped by $34bn. During the same time, reports of a comeback of PUBG Mobile were making the rounds.

Back then, the common consensus was that the publishing rights for the game would be bought by either Airtel or Jio- two of the biggest carrier services in India. This would have allowed easy entry of PUBG Mobile back into India. However, plans for the same did not materialize and once again, the future of PUBG Mobile remained uncertain.

Soon afterwards, reports came in suggesting that a new game, with the same core gameplay and feel called PUBG Mobile India would be launched in India. PUBG Mobile India would contain the same game but with a few differences. Key points to take away are that characters in the main screen are fully clothed and there are some changes to how blood and gore is shown in the game.

Back in November, another ray of hope cropped up as it was announced that the game could likely be released on November 20, 2020. However, the game did not get clearance from the MEITY on the grounds of the game being too addictive and not having appropriate content for youngsters and impressionable children.

PUBG Mobile gave a boost to Indian gaming

In its heyday, PUBG Mobile was one of the most played games in India. It gave a massive boost to the esports and gaming scene in India. The game brought esports to everyone with a mobile phone.

As of now, there is no word on when the game will launch in India. There are quite a few hurdles that the developers and publishers will have to cross to get the game back to India. Till then, gamers will have to keep themselves occupied by a host of other games.
