Esports will be a part of the 19th Hangzhou Asian Games 2022

The AESF (Asian Electronics Sports Federation) has officially confirmed that esports will be a part of the Hangzhou Asian Games 2022 as a medal event and will be added to the intellectual titles. This means that esports will be as good as any other event in the Asian Games like chess and there will be medals too.

The Hangzhou 2022 will be the 19th edition of the Asian Games which will be held from September 10 to September 25.

This is certainly a piece of great news for the Asian esports community as the community in Asia has been striving to bring esports in the spotlight.

Three Years of Uncertainity for Asian Esports comes to an end

The inclusion of esports was first announced back in 2017 by the Olympic Council of Asia [OCA]. However, in 2018 the OCA canceled the inclusion as there was no governing body for esports. At that time esports was still included as a 'demonstration sport' showcasing games like League of Legends and StarCraft II.

But now since we have a number of governing bodies for esports like the Asian Electronic Sports Federation, hence the HAGOC [Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Commitee] and the China Olympic Committee proposed during the 39th OCA General Assembly, to include esports as an intellectual event at the Hangzhou Asian games 2022.
