Nintendo and Tencent Games come together for an upcoming Pokemon Game- Pokemon Unite

Nintendo-backed The Pokemon Company on Wednesday announced a cross-platform Pokemon team battling game developed with Tencent's Timi Studio as the two gaming heavyweights deepen their cooperation with a twist on the Pokemon format.

You would know Tencent for making games such as the popular mobile battle royale game, PUBG Mobile. They also had a role to play in the development of Call of Duty Mobile.

A new kind of Pokemon Game

Till now, Pokemon games have mostly been single player, no matter how you look at it. In "Pokemon Unite," teams of five hunt down Pokemon in a battle area, with the game running on Nintendo's Switch console and on mobile. Its release date is yet to be announced.

Pokemon games are some of the most widely appreciated and loved games. The new Pokemon Unite brings along a new spin with it, which is something that players will enjoy.

Japanese game company, Nintendo is deepening its cooperation with China's top gaming company Tencent. The two firms are partnering to sell the Switch console into the Chinese market.

Tencent announced last July its Shenzhen-based Timi Studio was working on a new Pokemon title. The studio behind the monster mobile hit "Honor of Kings", it is targeting overseas expansion and recently hired a US director from French gaming company Ubisoft.

Nintendo's share price this month touched 12-year highs as demand from shut-in consumers. This is another reason they are on board with a new Pokemon game coming out.

The 12 year highs in demand could be a result of the latest hit Nintendo Switch game, Animal Crossing New Horizons, which is an island life simulator.
