Nier: Automata sells over 5 million copies worldwide

Video game developer PlatinumGames recently announced that their action RPG title Nier: Automata has sold over 5 million copies worldwide since its release in 2017. The game was published under Square Enix's banner and has now become PlatinumGame's best selling title yet.

Nier: Automata was first released in 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows. Xbox One version was released a year later in June 2018 under the subtitle Become As Gods Edition.

Nier: Automata delivers a unique experience

Nier: Automata features an open world with various hack-and-slash elements, fast-paced combat, platforming elements, and just overall unique gameplay complemented by a deep narrative that has managed to attract such a large player base. Players can use 4 different types of weapons- short swords, long swords, bracers, and spears which can be used in combination to launch different attacks.

One interesting thing about this game is multiple endings. Nier: Automata has 26 different endings out of which five are main endings lettered A to E, and remaining 21, F-Z are additional endings. The five main endings can be triggered by progressing the story whereas the additional endings can be triggered by performing certain actions like removing the OS chip from the protagonist which is an Android.

The game was nominated for several awards in 2017 and 2018 and it also managed to win a few including the Role Playing Game of the Year at the 2018 D.I.C.E Awards.

At The Game Awards 2020, Square Enix showed off the gameplay of an updated version of Nier Replicant which is set to release in April 2021.
