Naughty Dog is most likely working on a Last of Us Part II multiplayer mode
The Last of Us II was undoubtedly one of the biggest game releases of 2020. The game was brought to us by the developers Naughty Dog, and now, it seems that the team are already working on a new project.
As per some staffing changes at Naughty Dog studios, which were spotted by Twisted Voxel it seems that the studio is working on a new project. According to their LinkedIn profiles, both Richard Cambier and Vinit Agarwal, formerly lead game designers on The Last of Us Part 2, were promoted within Naughty Dog to game director and co-game director respectively. This leads us to believe that a Last of Us Part 2 multiplayer could soon come out.
No word yet on what Naughty Dog's next project is
Earlier last year, following the release of The Last of Us Part II, the studio had announced that a multiplayer version of the game could come out, but there was no clarity just yet. From the information given by Twisted Voxel, Vinit Agarwal was "primarily a multiplayer designer who has helped ship portions of Naughty Dog's single player experiences in times of need."
This is quite a big hint towards a multiplayer aspect of The Last of Us Part II. The multiplayer version of the game was shelved earlier last year, because the standalone game proved to be too ambitious for the team to focus on other aspects. Most likely, it will be a few years before we actually see a multiplayer component of The Last of Us Part II.
The Last of Us Part II came out in 2019 as a PS4 exclusive. The game picks off a few years after the events of the first game.
