Killzone website officially retired by PlayStation

PlayStation has officially retired the official website of it's FPS series Killzone. According to a notice put up on killzone.com, the website for the Killzone franchise has been retired and users will now be redirected to the PlayStation website.

The Killzone franchise is a series of six shooter games developed by Guerrilla Games exclusive for the PlayStation consoles. The first Killzone game was released in 2004 and the latest addition to the franchise came with Killzone Shadow Fall in 2013.

Is it the end of the Killzone franchise?

In the official statement that is signed by Guerrilla, the developer states that this change will not affect online multiplayer modes, player statistics or ranking data for Killzone Mercenary and Killzone Shadow Fall. However, it is no longer possible to create or manage clans in Killzone Shadow Fall.

Killzone Shadow Fall was the last entry in the Killzone series and since then, there hasn't been any news of another Killzone game being under development.

Guerrilla Games is now focused on its upcoming action RPG- Horizon Forbidden West which is set to release in 2021 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The game will be a sequel to Guerrilla's 2017 release Horizon Zero Dawn. In 2018, Horizon Zero Dawn became one of the best-selling PlayStation 4 games after it sold over 7.6 million copies within one year of its release. That figure grew to 10 million in 2019.

It is no surprise that Guerrilla wants to dedicate their time on developing the Horizon series even further and it looks like they have no plans on resurrecting the Killzone franchise any time soon.
