EA announces Next Generation plans for Apex Legends, Star Wars: Squadrons, UFC4 and more

The next generation consoles are almost upon us. Over the past few weeks, there have been a lot of announcements regarding how our current favourite games will run on the Xbox Series X, Series S and Playstation 5. Now, EA has gone ahead and given us information on how their games will be optimized for the next generation of consoles.

The company detailed their plans for Star Wars: Squadrons, Apex Legends, sports titles- UFC 4, FIFA 21, NHL 21 and Madden NFL 21. EA also spoke a bit about Need For Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered. So, here's what you need to know about playing these games on your shiny new next generation console.

Star Wars: Squadrons

In the updated version of the game, meant for next generation consoles, there will be a bunch of added features. One of these features is support for variable refresh rates and the choice to switch between better visuals and better performance on Xbox Series X and Series S.

The visual enhancement mode features an improved lighting model and runs up to 1440p at 60fps on the Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X takes that up to 2160p at 60fps. The performance mode offers the same resolution at 120fps.

On the PS5, the game will include improved lighting effects, while keeping the "same resolution and framerate as on the PS4 Pro".

Apex Legends

As of now, EA has not given much detail on how Apex Legends will work on the newer consoles. However, it is certain that the game will see a "performance boost up to 1440p."

EA also confirmed that a more in-depth version of Apex Legends will hit the next generation consoles some time in the next year. The update will most likely be a more cohesive next generation version of the game.

EA Sports games- UFC4, FIFA 21, NHL 21 and Madden NFL 21

All of EA's sports games will feature improved load times and significantly better frame rates. EA stated that the performance is more or less similar to the high end settings mode on the previous generation consoles. The Xbox Series X version is akin to the Xbox One X version, while the PS5 will feature PS4 Pro like performance, only better.

Need For Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered

Since the game was just remastered, don't expect much from the next generation version. EA stated that the Xbox Series X version is said to perform "like it's on an Xbox One X", and Xbox Series S will run the game "like it's on an Xbox One S". The PlayStation 5 will run it "like it's on the PlayStation 4 Pro".

Apart from detailing these updates for the next generation consoles, EA also announced that most game owners will receive a free upgrade of the game from a current console generation to the next one.
