Districts, History, and Gangs of Cyberpunk 2077's Night City showcased at NCW Episode 3
The gaming community is hyped with Microsoft and Sony releasing their next-generation consoles in the upcoming months. Adding to the hype are some exclusive and non-exclusive new games releasing on these consoles.
One of them is Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt Red has been giving glimpses of what the game will be like in their online series Night City Wire. Yesterday, the third episode of Night City Wire was streamed.
Night City's history, Districts and the Gangs
Night City is named after Richard Night. He was a visionary industrialist who dreamed of building a city of the future. With the help of some of the world's largest corporations, he made his vision a reality by developing large real estate on California’s Coronado Bay. The city grew and prospered in a short period of time. On the other hand, his rivals grew jealous of his success and Richard Night was murdered by unknown assailants in his own home. The City was named after him. Thus, 'Night City' was born.
"Night City is easily the most complex project I or others have worked on," Miles Tost, Senior Level Designer at CD Projekt Red. He explains how the city came to be. Miles and his team, were without a doubt, at their creative best when they designed Night City. The City is divided into Seven districts- City Center, Watson, Westbrook, Heywood, Pacifica, Santo Domingo and Badlands. Each district is unique in terms of architecture, demographics, the people living there and also how each district functions within the city. This attendtion to detail will allow the player to easily navigate through the concrete jungles of the Night City. It is built to cater to the uniqueness and intimacy that open-world games have to offer.
The alleyways of the districts of the city are hounded by some of the most vicious gangs. Maelstorm and Tyger Claws of the Watson District, Housing in the Santo Domingo district- 6th Street, Voodoo Boys, and Animals of the Pacifica district and Valentinos of the Heywood district to name a few.
A lively, dangerous city
Miles Tost calls Night City the star of Cyberpunk 2077. With everything that was shown in the episode, it will be easy to fall in love with this dangerous city.
