Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over 13 million copies despite launch issues and refunds
Over the past 7 years, CD Projekt Red were hard at work making their dystopian futuristic RPG game, Cyberpunk 2077. On December 10, 2020, the game finally came out to the public and since then, it has had quite the roller coaster ride.
The game was released as an unfinished, buggy, glitchy mess, especially on last generation consoles- the Sony Playstation 4 and the Xbox One. Despite the rocky launch of the game, it has managed to sell over 13 million copies world wide in less than a month since its release.
Despite refunds, Cyberpunk 2077 sales cross 13 million
“This figure represents the estimated volume of retail sales across all hardware platforms (factoring in returns submitted by retail clients in brick-and-mortar as well as digital storefronts),” CDPR said in a report to investors.
What this means is that even counting the refunds and copies which went back to where it came from, the sales figure stays at around 13 million, which in itself is quite a big feat. The game has also been a top seller on Steam for the past two weeks. In comparison, Red Dead Redemption 2 sold 17 million copies in the first two weeks.
Right now, the game is unavailable to purchase digitally on the Playstation Store. Players can also ask for a refund of their digital version on either Xbox or Playstation. As for PC, the performance is much better than on the consoles, but the game is still rather buggy. CD Projekt Red have stated that they plan to fix the bugs and issues of the game shortly.
