F1 esports launches first-ever mobile racing tournament

F1 mobile racing which released on 18 June 2018, will now get its own esports tournament.

F1 esports today announced that for the first time ever, a mobile racing tournament will be held. This tournament will span a total of 4 months.

Race through 4 months for a chance at glory

Starting today, the tournament will span four months with qualifying leagues conducted each month where players have to complete challenges to progress forward. Leagues will reset at the end of each month. Top performing drivers from each month will qualify for the finals, a nine day tournament which will be held in December.

“Mobile esports is a booming industry as Gen Zs and Gen Alpha spend more time gaming and on their phones,” said Julian Tan, head of digital business initiatives and esports at Formula 1.

The crowned champion will receive a trophy and forever be remembered as the first ever F1 mobile racing champion.

Julian adds, "This is part of F1’s strategy to continue making the sport more accessible to our fans through gaming and esports.

The F1 Mobile Racing app developed by Codemasters is available for free on App store and Play store. The participation and registration for the tournament is also completely free.

With the ban of PUBG Mobile, the future of mobile esports in India seems rather murky. However, with initiatives like this, from other such game makers could just save the ongoing trends of mobile gaming.
